1970 Nova Reconstruction
The decade long journey of a passion project by Doug Bannen
As with many projects, the vision did not match reality. This project is no exception. The scope of the project was much different than other car projects in my past.
The project started with the purchase of a 1970 Nova in 2004.
I liked the body style and knew that good after market support existed. My vision called for a vehicle with modern engine / drivetrain, excellent braking /steering, comfortable interior with AC, capable of driving cross country, while achieving outstanding fuel mileage and I believed the project could be completed in three years.
As the years moved forward, the initial build time had increased and the car was rolling by September 2012 but not complete. Many options were contemplated, including the idea of pulling the plug, had certainly occurred more than once during this period. With 8 years into the build I was determined to finish what I had set out to do.
What came next? 5 more years and the final push to completion in 2017.
